On to the review:

The Descent was... kinda fun.

There were a couple of nice scenes and some nasty gore but I just have to say that it was unbelievably predictable.
The scares, the characters, everything except that nice touch in the end was predictable.
I even predicted in which order everyone (Except for Beth and Rebecca, I reversed that one.) was going to die before they got into that blasted cave!
The big fight scene(s) at the end showed that Sarah was way more savage than the poor crawlers and I really started thinking she would make the poor creatures an extinct species by the end of the film. :lol:


The scares were jumpy but it got a bit repetitive, mainly because the director loves the classics too much. (Clear influence from Alien, even the sound of the crawlers.)
There is nothing wrong with that of course but it does make the scares become "not scary".
The music falls away everytime just before the shocks and long shots on the same character(s) always result in a shock at the end.


Also, the whole side love story affair kind of thing was painly obvious from the very beginning (after the rafting).
You knew it was going to come down to Sarah and Juno at the end (with me rooting for the asian chick of course).


On the bright side however, the crawlers looked pretty good and while their look wasn't very original
(LotR, Blade 2 and others come to mind) they acted very well. Their creeping around was especially fluent.

More good news came from the gore department, lots of beautiful blood and painful scenes (Broken leg, pickaxe in head,
fingers in eyes, bone in eye, ...).

I loved the Apocalypse Now tribute (rising from the bloody water) even if it wasn't supposed to be a tribute.

Final thoughts:

The Descent is a predictable but highly entertaining flick!

See, told you it was awesome in a fun / gory way! Nice pics btw....the nudie pics are a nice addition.

I knew everyone was going for the nudity. But it was painfully absent in the film itself.

I also want to see the euro cut. I heard they made an alternate ending for American audiences, which angers me.

Really? And here I am talking about a "nice touch at the end".
Tell me the American ending!

After stabbing the crap out of Junos leg, Sarah falls, picks herself up and climbs out of the cave. She escapes. Then she runs through the woods a bit and finds the jeep they came in, gets back in...drives off, vomits. Then as she pulls her head back into the car you see (what im assuming) Juno's ghost sitting next to her.

That's it?

Yup.

Our ending is way better.

Wanna know the better ending?

Actually yeah. Cause God knows when the DVD will come out. Hows the real climax?

The whole scene with the escape isn't really happening.
Sarah wakes up in front of her torch, still underground. She sees the scene again with her daughter and the birthday cake. Sarah smiles at her imaginary daughter.

The camera pans out of the little grotto she's in and you see she's far underground, you also hear that the crawlers are coming...


10³ times better than the cheesy American one I'd say.

Hassun, you know DAMN well any original ending is better than a US release version.

And after reading the original finale you've described, I want to see that version even more so.

It's probably not even a minute longer but the difference is striking don't you think?

Sickening. If I want a depressing ending, I better get a fucking depressing ending!
