Title: Monitor malfunctioning?
Hassun - December 30, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
Lately my SyncMaster has started to flicker a bit from time to time. Sometimes shutting down to a black screen entirely.
Up till now I've managed to turn it back on every time but it I wouldn't want it to crap out on me permanently.
Any similar experiences or solutions?
Skillzpay - December 30, 2009 05:25 PM (GMT)
I sense a 100-150 quid solution brewing.
Hassun - December 30, 2009 05:45 PM (GMT)
Naturally I have thought of that as well.
... But I dismissed it because the present was €100 tops. And 2 of €50 were preferred.

Sounds like your backlight is dying. No fix for that other than a new monitor.

So I think my monitor finally bit the dust. last Sunday it suddenly went to a black screen. The power still worked, the computer still worked but the screen is just black. I connected the screen to someone else's computer and it also just showed a blank screen.
No way to repair it at all? And if not, does anyone have a some suggestions for a new monitor?
Trowble - June 29, 2010 01:31 PM (GMT)
http://thecoolgadgets.com/bx2050-bx2250-bx...Cool+Gadgets%29Samsung is coming out with 4 new LED Syncmaster monitors, BX2050, BX2250, BX2350 and BX2450. I'm getting the BX2450 when it comes out with my sweet gift cards from Newegg. They won't be released in the US until July, but I read somewhere that Europe should be getting them now.
And if you can't wait for the new ones, this is the next best thing:

Backlights probably dead, that's the end of it for a monitor, time to get a new one.

You forgot to state your budget. 5 bundles of hay? 6? 7?
Ishamael - June 30, 2010 12:35 PM (GMT)
Haven't you seen Hostel? He probably has loads of cash after selling that American he kidnapped last summer.
Hassun - June 30, 2010 03:17 PM (GMT)
I'd say 400-500 bucks at most. I prefer it to have WUXGA resolution (1920x1200) or Full HD, at least one HDMI port and a +/-24'' size range.
Those new Samsung screens do look appealing but I haven't seen them out here nor have they even been announced.
Raiiban - June 30, 2010 05:56 PM (GMT)
I've had an Acer 1900x1200 24 inch screen for about a year or so now, think it costed about $250US at the time, been pretty happy with it.

They were announced for Europe before they were announced for the US, check the interweb.

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/office/...detail&tab=specSince there are no reviews yet it's hard to gauge how good they are, I'm also a bit disappointed that they're 1920x1080 and not 1920x1200.
Trowble - June 30, 2010 10:14 PM (GMT)
I'd assume that they're good, they're suppose to be the successors to the XL2370 in the 50 series line, which got really good reviews. Can you really notice a difference between 1200 and 1080, aside from the text being extremely small...
Raiiban - June 30, 2010 11:22 PM (GMT)
It's just 16:9 vs 16:10 aspect ratio, more things are adjusted to 16:9 right now anyway.

Where he lives they don't use a common medium of exchange. They still operate by bartering.
Regardless, he's obviously a baller if he can afford a $400-500 monitor.

If your looking for a 1920x1200 display at that price range you will want to get either the Dell or HP 24" IPS displays. Both hover right around $420-$600.

Here is the HP:
ZR24wAnd the Dell:
Ultra Sharp U2410
Hassun - July 2, 2010 08:03 AM (GMT)
Yeah I've been looking at the Dell as well. The only problem being that they are a bit too dear. Especially out here where they like to add a good 100 to the price for whatever reason. Making them €600 monstrosities. I'd rather stay under €500.
I've been looking at the HPZR24W and the Dell U2311H. Both lack HDMI ports and and the Dell is 1920x1080 unfortunately.
P.S. Hello, conceptx. We should have more topics like this if they bring you here. :D
Hassun - July 2, 2010 08:17 PM (GMT)
Also, about that BX line of monitors. If they're talking about a BX2450, don't you think they'll release a higher quality BX2470 soon after?
Hassun - July 16, 2010 01:58 PM (GMT)
OK, I've pretty much narrowed it down to 3 displays:
Acer GD245HQ (known as the GD235HZ in the USofA)
Dell U2311H
Samsung BX2450

I just need to buy it from another country...

Your country hasn't progressed far enough to be able to sell modern day electronics?

it's taken you nearly a month to decide on a monitor?

Oh a month is nothing for me.
But to be honest it's just that finding a good stuff in this backwater boonyMcShithole is quite an achievement. I'll have to order the damn thing from another country and it'll take 2-3 weeks before THEY even get it.
I only wish we'd get something like Newegg someday.
Skillzpay - July 21, 2010 04:53 PM (GMT)
It'd be easier just to move to a more developed country.

Yes you should listen to Skills and move to a new country. Sounds like you would get your monitor quicker that way.
And thank you for making me realize that I should never leave U.S.!
Hassun - August 5, 2010 06:44 PM (GMT)
Fucking hell! The monitor finally arrived. On the bright side, I don't see any bad pixels or backlight bleeding. It's awesome so far. From a 19" TN to a 23" IPS panel.
