Apparently, Eight is not Enough

So a woman who already has 6 children (the oldest only 7 years old) gives birth to octuplets. That makes a grand total of 14 whining, hungry, needy little beings for her as a single parent to take care of. All of which were conceived through in vitro fertilization...they weren't just "oops, I guess I'm pregnant". The second article states that even as a teenager, the woman wanted at least 12 children.

So my questions are:
1) Can this be considered a sign of mental instability? It's great that she loves (read: has an unhealthy fixation on) kids and being a mom, but come on, 14? Especially at a time when things are so unstable in this country, it seems absolutely insane to me to have more than one child, let alone a small army of them. And regardless of how much she wants/loves them, is she even capable of providing all of them with happy, healthy lives?

2) Should there be a limit on the number of children an individual/family can have? I'm not saying we go all China here, but this has to be excessive for even the most liberal, family centered people in the U.S. I truly believe no one should have more children than they can actually take care of (i.e. feed, clothe, not turn into fucked up adults), but there's no magic number, nothing that could be applied across the board.

I'm pretty drunk right now, but why are you calling her a liberal? Aren't they the ones that support abortion?

However, this isn't the worst case I've heard of. It's not unusual for Indian Polygamy families to have someone father over 70 children, but then again that's a family with a father and a few spare mothers around, not a single parent.

Anyway, if the woman can safely provide for all children that's fine, I doubt she can unless she's got some rich parents supporting her. I'd bet 14 kids rakes in a healthy welfare check. No matter which way you look at it that, 1 woman can't care for 14 kids, 8 of which are babies. I'm sure at least 8 of them are gonna end up in jail and the others needing therapy for one reason or another.

I remember hearing a while back, like years ago so the memories fuzzy, that one country which suffered from overpopulation would put a pretty fierce tax on families with more than two children as a subtle way of discouraging large families.

Shoot them all in the head, the world is over-populated enough as it is. Not to mention the fact that with the economy already fucked up stuff like this isn't making it any better. Also, considering the very high probability that she will be leeching the Government for support stuff like this is only going to keep making things worse. Do the world a favor and execute people like this.

She will be getting a TV show and many many offers for years.

As for her getting buttloads of money, that pisses me off even more. Here's a woman who's so socially irresponsible that she has child after child with no regard to how she's going to actually raise them in a suitable environment, and she's rewarded for it? People like this should not be treated as some kind of maternal miracle, they should be considered freaks. The fact that she was allowed to continue having children through in vitro fertilization should be cause for alarm too. I have no problem with the procedure or the idea behind it, that those who can't have children naturally should be able to conceive and start families, but this is taking it too far.
